Indoor Distribution Tight Buffer Optical Cables – Plenum Rated

Tight Buffer Cables with 2 - 48 Optical Fibers

1. General

This specification covers the design requirements and performance standards for the supply of optical fiber cables as described below.  The features described in this document are intended to provide information on the performance of 4SProducts optical cable and aid in handling and installation.

1.1    Cable Description

The Indoor Intrabulding cables contain 2 to 48 optical fibers; designed for premises applications where small size, excellent transmission properties and flame retardancy are required.

1.2    Quality

To meet ISO 9000 standards.

1.3    Reliability

Both initial and periodic qualification testing are performed to assure the cable's performance and durability in the field environment.

To meet and/or exceed industry standards organizations such as Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA),  International Telecommunications Union (ITU), International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).

2. Cable Design

2.1 General

The design consists of tight-buffered fibers (900 ΅m) within a flame retardant PVC jacket.

2.1.1 Construction

For 2 to 12 fiber cables, individually color coded fibers and aramid yarn are bundled within the flexible jacket. Cables with more than 12 fibers are assemble in sub-groups and these are then put together to form the final cable.

2.9 Markings

2.9.1 Cable Markings

The entire length of each cable is marked with the following items:

  • 4SProduct

  • Year of Manufacture

  • 4SProducts Part No.

  • Fiber Count

  • Sequential Length Markings in Meters

  • Telephone Handset Symbol

All length markings are placed at one meter intervals.  The actual cable length will be within ±3% of the marked length.  All markings are in indented in permanent white characters.  If remarking is required, yellow markings are used to correct the error in the original markings.

All cable text and markings are in the English language as follows;

2.9.2 Tape Markings

Non-Hydroscopic tape inside cable will contain the following markings in no more than 50cm distances.

  • Month / Year of Manufacture

  • Purchase Order number

2.9.3 Reel Markings

The text on the reels is to be printed as follows:

  • 4SProducts Logo

  • 4SProducts Wordmark

  • Cable Type

  • Fiber Count

  • Marking Showing Side to Unreel Cable

All reels will be painted in 072 royal blue and markings shall be in white.

All reels will contain a securely fastened metal plate with the following information:

  • Order Number

  • Drum Number

  • Reel Gross Weight (kg)

  • Reel Net Weight  (kg)

  • Reel Cable Length (Meters)

3. Performance Matrices

The finished cables can be subjected to the following mechanical and environmental conditions without a permanent increase in attenuation or damage to the cable.

4. Testing & Inspection

The optical properties of all fibers are measured before cable manufacturing and remain traceable throughout the manufacturing process and the lifetime of the cable.

After cabling, 100% of all fibers in each length of cable are measured with bi-directional OTDR at all operating wavelengths.  The attenuation for each fiber is recorded.  Cable dimensional measurements are also made at final inspection and recorded.

5. Packaging & Shipping

Cable is supplied in lengths specified at the time of purchase.  Each length will be shipped on a separate non-returnable wooden reel.  The minimum barrel diameter of the reel will not be less than 30 times the cable diameter.

The cable on each reel will be completely covered with several layers of plastic wrap.  This wrap shall provide excellent protection to cables against moisture during transport or storage.

The cable ends will be sealed with plastic protection to prevent water penetration and the escape of water blocking gel.  The ends will be easily accessible for testing.

Each reel is marked with 4SProducts “Item Part No.”, cable type, fiber count, date of manufacture, and cable length on reel.  A final inspection test report with attenuation performance data for each fiber shall NOT be attached to the reel, but provided via mail to customer.

6. Warranty

4SProducts expressly warrants that all cables furnished shall conform to all specifications and appropriate standards manufactured under and will be new and free from defects in material or workmanship for a period of 36 months from invoice date.  4SProducts conforms that all products will conform to specifications provided and that all goods will be adequately and as agreed contained, packaged, marked, and labeled.  4S Products agrees to place or correct defects of any goods or services not conforming to the foregoing warranty promptly, without expense to its Customers, when notified of such nonconformity by its Customers.
